The quality of this gun is excellent, it''s well build, very solid, and exhibits excellent craftsmanship with a dark rich walnut stock, and a color case hardened frame with a lot of the extra scrolling work, very nice touch. I took my CZ Hammer Coach Gun out to the range today for the first time, and when I took it out of the case it drew quite a crowd of admirers, everyone wanted to examine it and our range master even gave me some free targets just for bringing in such a beautiful gun and showing it to everyone. Especially impressive was the ring sound that the barrels made when closing the breach; I was told that this sound is only heard on the very highest quality shotguns, and this is a good indicator that it was made from very high grade steel. The gun was also fun to shoot and seemed to be very accurate, and the fact that you can use both triggers simultaneously (i.e., using a two finger method) is a plus for home defense use.
Now as far as being able to use it for cowboy action shooting, which is what it was purchased for, I have my doubts. For one, the hammer springs are extremely strong, and they require quite a bit of strength just to get them cocked. Now the hammers do put one hell of a dent in the shell primer and I seriously doubt that there’ll be any chance of a misfire, ever! However, CAS shooting is a timed sport and a having a 125lb hammer pull to contend with will require some extra time. Secondly, the barrel is difficult to break open, it is very stiff and doesn’t seem to get much freer with use, and yes, I did make certain that is was greased properly. Keep in mind that everyone who broke it open and tried to cock it seemed to think that this was pretty much normal for the type of gun, including the CZ Rep. who just happened to be there at the time.
This gun is defiantly a keeper; it is just so damned beautiful that I almost hate to use it. I think that it would be an excellent choice for a home defense weapon or, have just to display over the mantel, your choice.
